Long Walks Or Short Walks?

For small breeds like us, PUGS, short walks are preferred. Because of having small nose, and very delicate wind pipes, we get exhausted very soon. We tend to breathe with our nose and mouth as well. Our breed is very similar to that of Bull Dogs in this reference.
So the ideal thing would be a short walk and that too not in hot sun. It is preferred that we walk in shade.

Some of our pugs, that are believed to be of Chinese origin, happen to be more bigger and heavier. They would require a little more exercise than the smaller ones. However, the weight of Pugs should be under 12kgs to have a healthy time.

Remember, if we cannot walk and are exhausted, we don't mind climbing up your shoulder and hike a lift to get back to the house.

LONG WALKS & NAILS

We do not have Manicure or pedicure to trim our nails, but GOD has given us a natural way to keep them trim. Pretty simple, we walk and scratch our nails on the ground, the friction helps in keeping them trim.

We have a habit of scratching our paw nails against the ground on various surfaces of mud, sand, grass and also on cemented roads. These surfaces help us to create the required friction and rub the sharpened edges of our nails and blunt them. Sometimes forward motion and sometimes backward, bothways the nails get sharpened.

If any of your puppies do not have this natural habit, then you could take them to the clinic to trim it.

That is why long walks always help in trimming.

FRIENDSHIP IS BEYOND ALL BARRIERS

True friendship is beyond size, color and breed. I gel well with my house mate Lakme who is a Labrador. She is white in color and a lot larger than me. Both of us play together, sleep beside on the same bed and run around like monkeys all over the house.

I also have another doggie at home named Elisa, she is a Indian stray dog. She is moody and does not minlge with us both. A couple of months behind Elisa by mistake bit Lakme's ear and Lakme was bleeding all over the place.

Lakme and me were not together right from childhood but off late both of us are good friends.

If anybody knocks our main door all three of us react and bark to save the house from unknown intruders.
We are all together and have lots of fun being so.

So I feel friendship is essential and we need another puppy like us at home to be active and happy. So even if you cannot get us same breed, we do not mind any other breed. But be careful that both of them are friendly and do not bite one another.

WE UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING

THIS ABOVE IMAGE IS SOURCED FROM THE FOLLOWING url: http://www.google.co.in/imgres?

As you can see one of my distant cousin in a far off land miles away from me, is responding to a dialogue of someone before him. Well, this is exactly what I am trying to say too. WE UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING. Hey the catch is simple, our actions convey that even if we do not understand, we pretend so or perhaps we put great efforts to make you understand that we understand you. Simple.

So what do we actually do? We bend our head either ways based on the source and impact of sound. With multiple folds on our foreheads we seem to look like an ALIEN race, trying to absorb all the wisdom of mankind.
I personally react to Flute playing and any woodwinds or specially whistle. I am sure one of our great grand father's must have been there in the kids who followed the pied piper. Maybe he was covered in the pictures by kids. I like the flute a lot and would listen to it all day long without making any noise or interruption.

So guys, I am sure you understand that WE UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING.

Jumping is my hobby; though,I am not a monkey .

All I need is a small landing platform like a chair or stool or even your lap. All I do is jump and take a support in mid air with my fore leg and jump on to the table. I am not talking about a cat. I am talking about myself.
I like to jump on to the sofa, the bed, tables, chairs anything that is high cannot stop me from cliff hanging. Probably this is how I express my feelings and aspirations to grow in life. What do you say?

MY FULL TIME AVOCATION

I do not see Television or read newspaper or browse internet or talk on mobile for hours together...
Do I?
My best pass times are few but I enjoy them.
My full time avocation is to follow the footsteps of my master and look at him all the time.
My heart is full and content if i find my master at home in front of me.
Believe me that I can't bear the separation even for the few minutes that he would rest in the toilet.
My master is my everything. Well that's what God sent me here for. Isn't it folks?
I am just following God's instructions carefully.
My other pastime is the short walks i take with my master holding the leash. I do not prefer others taking me out for a walk. Then I like waiting and dancing around for my breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The of course, sleeping beside my master or sitting by his side when he is at work.
I do not disturb him unless he is at liesure. I wait for him to play with me. My games are simple, I let my master annoy me with a pillow or a cloth, and i try to fight with the pillow. I often try to chew my masters hand and fingers not violently and also lick his hand to express my gratitude to him.

That is all on my agenda. I am a simple non complicated puppy and love to be my masters pet.

I love my master a lot.
He is my full time avocation.

Do we get to see color?

Some say we do and some disagree saying we are color blind.
Well so how do I look like in a mirror to myself?

           This way or that way?

It is said that we do not have enough cones in our eyes to decode like humans, so the range of colors we understand, is much less than you all, who are reading this.

We definitely can’t see RED or green. It might appear more like gray to us.

Research believes that we can see blue, shades of blue and yellow and shades of yellow.
If a red object is lying on a green surface or vice versa, they might look same to us and we might get confused to distinguish them from each other.

Of course some tetra chromatic animals can even detect Ultra violet shades, so that makes some animals better than humans. He He..

So let’s look at this saddening part in an enthusiastic way.

Compared to humans, we are less intelligent as we are an earlier life form, probably. So, even if we had the opportunity to see more colors, it would have been very heavy and taxing on our tiny brains. All said and done, we are happy with what has been bestowed upon us by god. All that we need is more love from you to compensate for the limitations.

Read this, I found by smelling GOOOOOGLE

Description
The Pug is a small, stocky, square, thickset dog. The round head is massive with a short, blunt, square shaped muzzle. Moles on the cheeks are considered beauty spots. The teeth meet in a slight undershot bite. The very large, prominent eyes are dark. The small, thin ears are either rose or button shaped. The face has large, deep wrinkles. The high set tail is curled over the back and a double curl is preferred in the show ring. Dewclaws are usually removed. The short coat is soft, fine and smooth. Coat colors come in apricot, fawn, black and silver.
Temperament
The Pug is keen, with a happy-go-lucky attitude. Animated, peppy and spirited, they are loyal, loving and affectionate with their families. Playful, lively and rambunctious, they are sure to keep you laughing. Highly intelligent, it bores easily without variety in their training. They can be a bit willful if they sense they are stronger minded than the humans around them. Pugs are sensitive to the tone of your voice, so harsh punishment is unnecessary. They need an owner who is calm, yet firm, confident and consistent with the rules. The dog is neither excitable nor dull. They are good watchdogs, very devoted and are not yappers. Pugs get along well with other dogs and pets, and they behave impeccably with both children and visitors. Be sure to be your Pug's pack leader. Pugs who do not have strong human leaders can become jealous, and begin to display guarding behaviors, such asguarding furniture, food, toys, or other spots in the house. This behavior only happens when dogs are allowed to take over. These behaviors can be corrected when the owners start displaying the proper leadership. Dogs who feel they need to run the home are not as happy as dogs who know they are human followers, as it is very stressful for a dog to need to keep "their" humans in line.
Height, Weight
Height:  Dogs 12-14 inches (30-36 cm.) Bitches 10-12 inches (25-30 cm.)
Weight: Dogs 13-20 pounds (6-9kg.) Bitches 13-18 pounds (6-8kg.)
Health Problems
Pugs catch colds easily and are stressed by hot and cold weather. They are prone to allergies and the short muzzle contributes to chronic breathing problems, tending to wheeze and snore. (Pugs suffer from poor ventilation.) Prone to skin problems. Pone to Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE), an inflammation of the brain that strikes adolescent Pugs usually between the ages of 2 and 3. The cause is unknown. They are not the easiest whelpers. Dams usually have to have cesarean sections due to the size of the pups heads. There is a chance of keratites (inflammation of the cornea) and ulcers on the cornea. Eyes are prone to weeping. Do not overfeed a Pug, as they will eat more than is good for them, quickly becoming obese and living much shorter lives.
Living Conditions
The Pug is good for apartment life. It is relatively inactive indoors and will do okay without a yard. Cannot withstand hot or cold weather and should be kept indoors at a comfortable temperature.
Exercise
Pugs are strong dogs with short straight legs. They need to be taken on daily walksWhile out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as instinct tells a dog the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. They enjoy energetic games and will keep in better health if given regular exercise. But be careful not to over do it, especially if you see them start to wheeze.
Life Expectancy
About 12 to 15 years.
Grooming
The smooth, short-haired coat is easy to groom. Brush and comb with a firm bristle brush and shampoo only when necessary. Dry thoroughly after a bath so the dog does not get chilled. The creases on the face must be cleaned regularly. This breed is a seasonally heavy shedder.
Origin
The Pug is one of the oldest breeds known today, believed to have originated before 400 BC. There is somewhat of a debate over the origin of the Pug. Most researchers agree that the Pug originated from Asia descended from a short-haired Pekingese. Another theory is, it is the result of crossing a small Bulldog, while other speculate that it is a miniature form of the French Mastiff ( Dogue de Bordeaux). The artist Hogarth had a Pug named "Trump" who he often depicted in his works. The breed became popular during Victorian times in the 19th century. Tibetan monasteries kept Pugs as pets. The breed made its way to Japan and Europe where it not only became a pet of royalty but the official dog of the House of Orange in Holland. Prince William II owned Pugs. One dog in particular was said to have saved his life in 1572 at Hermingny, when the dog barked at approaching Spaniards alerting him of their presents. In France Napoleon's wife, Josephine had a Pug named "Fortune". On their wedding night when Napoleon refused to allow the dog to sleep in their bed Josephine told him, "If the Pug does not sleep in our bed, neither do I!" When Josephine was sent to prison she used the little dog to send secret messages to her husband by placing a note under the collar of her Pug. In 1860 when the British took over the Chinese Imperial Palace, they discovered several Pugs and Pekinese, and the dogs were brought back to England with them. The AKC recognized the Pug in 1885. Some of the Pug's talents include: watchdog and performing tricks.

SUMMER IS SOARING HIGH

ah ah.. ah .. ah... with my tongue always out, saliva dropping drop by drop, throat drying up, body heat unbearable, summer is testing us pugs in Hyderabad.

As such we are cold country breeds or atleast moderate temperatures are fine with us, but definitely not 42 degrees Celsius. 'GOD', be kind and give us early monsoon pleeeeeze.

For the love of our master, we don't even mind the heat of summer and that is why I am here in India and am sure that it is the same with all my brother hood of dogs and other pets who are loyal to their masters in this country. As you all know that we follow our masters to the END OF WORLD. He he a bold and BIG statement for a small pug like me, But that's true and I will talk about this in another post of mine much later from now. As for now, I request all master to fill cool water in our drinking bowls always and preferable a couple of them in different rooms as we might be lazy at times to hunt for it.

Also give us a cold wrap if it is too hot as Air conditioning is also not that good for us all the time.

Natural cooling is best. Keep us away from hot windows and exposure to heat. Also, make sure that you give us early morning walks and late evening walks to avoid heat outside.

I know it is great to be a human but it is also a great feeling to be a Doggie if we get loving masters.

Leaving us in unattended in cars may be fatal !

Hi guys, it's good to be back with you again on my blog.

Actually, I was very tired due to summer heat and could not concentrate writing. Mentioning about summer heat, you must be seeing a lot of sportsmen sweating, likewise anyone for that instance out in the sun for a while will start to sweat. Oh, but we poor doggies do not sweat. Well, God gave us less features compared to human evolution and perhaps that is why, we have outdated primitive features .. sob sob... In the newer technology of evolution, GOD introduced sweating in humans as far as my knowledge goes.

Well whatever... but the actual fact is that we do not sweat.

Recently, I was reading a Billboard of "Pedigree", 'cautioning pet owners not to leave dogs unattended in cars'.

Because, the temperature rises in a car that is not moving. Even so, if the air conditioning is put off. This might be dangerous for us, as our body temperature rises because of lack of sweating and ebullition. This might prove to be fatal in many cases. So, I decided to share this piece of information with everyone on my blog.

So all pet owners, kindly do not leave us unattended inside cars, as we are not capable of turning on the AC or driving back home by ourselves.

SHORT NOSE BREED - PUGS

Unlike a lot of other canines, we pugs do not have a long nose. We have a short nose similar to humans and a very sensitive wind pipe which often gets clogged with food in the food pipe. God has given us a lot of problems to deal with, but perhaps thats what makes us look like an alien, like the one in ET and Koi Mil Gaya - Jadooooooo.

This makes us a very friendly breed with our human co species on this planet.
Children find us amusing. Thanks to the Vodafone campaigns, they have made us a popular branded breed.

However, with the advent of the ZOOZOOS there was a downfall of our race in the country. The Zoozoos have taken our share of Brand identity and our equity came down.

Anyways too bad for them, we are back on the voda campaigns again and are hot favorites of every kid.

Small but we occupy a big space in your hearts.

ARE YOU AWARE THAT PUGS HAVE VERY SENSITIVE EYES?

Especially in our early infancy days, when, we are not aware of hazards and slower in our reflexes to guard ourselves, our eyes are most vulnerable to grass, insects and any sharp object in the house.

Keep us away and well guarded against anything that can hurt our popping eyes.

We also have a tendency for mucus  to form and settle in the eyes, you can use moisol or gentil drops to keep our eyes wet and clean, away from infections and ulcers. However, do not do anything without consulting a registered and qualified veterinary doctor............

All pug masters, do take good care of us because, We are most loyal to follow you, till the end of world.
